Measuring Hazard Exposure Utilizing Multiple Methods of Mapping

Project type

Environmental Hazard Assessment

Date

March 2022

Location

New York City, NY

In this assignment, the goal was to explore the difference between four types of GIS-based hazard exposure approaches using
real world data. The flood inundation zone from Hurricane Sandy in New York City is used as a baseline for a possible future flood and the most up to date census data (2019) is used to represent the current population. Measuring the number of people in New York City that would be affected by a storm similar to Sandy is crucial in measuring hazard risk and allows the comparison of the different hazard exposure approaches.
